Description

Oxytocin is a cyclic nonapeptide with an intramolecular disulfide bridge between the cysteine residues at positions 1 and 6. It was among the first peptide hormones to be sequenced and synthesised, and its structure is correspondingly well established — which is what makes it useful as an analytical reference standard.

The disulfide bridge is the structural feature most sensitive to handling. Storage conditions matter more for this compound than for most linear peptides; see the specification above.
